Dubai Offers 50 Percent Toll Discount for All Electric Vehicles

The Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai has announced a comprehensive 50 percent discount on Salik toll fees for all registered electric vehicles, representing one of the most generous incentive packages for EV owners anywhere in the world. The landmark policy, which takes effect immediately across all toll gates in the emirate, forms a central component of Dubai ambitious Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050.

The financial impact for regular commuters is substantial. The average Dubai motorist passes through Salik toll gates approximately four to six times per day, accumulating monthly toll charges of between 200 and 400 AED. The 50 percent discount translates to annual savings of 1,200 to 2,400 AED per vehicle, providing a meaningful ongoing financial incentive that complements the initial purchase decision.

The toll discount is part of a broader package of EV incentives that Dubai has progressively introduced. Electric vehicle owners already benefit from free public parking across all RTA-managed facilities, reduced vehicle registration fees, access to dedicated EV parking spots with charging facilities in major shopping centres, and exemption from congestion charges during peak hours. Combined, these incentives can save EV owners over 10,000 AED annually.

The initiative has already produced measurable results, with a 40 percent increase in new EV registrations in the emirate during the quarter following the announcement. Dubai currently has over 15,000 registered electric vehicles, and the RTA projects this number will exceed 100,000 by 2028. The authority has simultaneously accelerated its public charging infrastructure rollout, installing over 800 new charging points in the past year alone, with plans to reach 5,000 chargers across the emirate by 2030.
